Interesting Scores

Last lesson for Music For Networks we were given some tasks to help us think outside of the box when analysing and listening to music.

First we were given a piece of plain paper and asked to rip it in half. On one piece of paper we were to create an instrument to play to the class and on the other piece of paper, we were asked to score our performance.

I decided to use the piece of paper like you would a blade of grass when you put it between your thumbs and it makes a harsh buzzing sound. I then wrote a manuscript score and wrote the rhythm that I played.

After that we we’re given another piece of paper and asked to draw how we thought the music sounded when Gary played a certain note, chord or melody. These were the results:

Finally, we were asked to quickly go around our university campus, draw it and write down the different sounds that could be heard around the site.
